Should you be eating a low fat diet?

The common belief is that a low fat diet is a healthy weight conscious diet.  The truth is that the only fat that should be reduced or better yet eliminated are trans-fats.  These are fats that have been chemically atlered by heat.  They are found, for the most part, in processed foods.  Trans-fats are oxidized fats that can create serious problems in the body.

If you are interested in feeling better, being healthy, or losing weight lowering your fat consumption will not help you,in fact it will work against you.  Fats play a critical role in healthy body function.  Healthy body function is necessary for successful weight loss and control.  Saturated fats, monounsaturated fats, and polyunsaturated fats are needed for:

growth

repair

healthy skin

vitamin absorption

improved immunity

heart health

vision

reduced inflammation

protection of cells

and more.

These are just a few of the benefits. If you limit your dietary fats you are starving your body and hindering repair and function. Besides, feeling hungry more often, this does not lay the ground work for weight loss and good health.
